Phormium t. 'Terra Cotta', Coleus 'Sedona', red sedum

I love this combination because of its vibrant tones of burnt orange, peach and dark apricot that throw subtlety out the window. While New Zealand flax is a stalwart in sunny California, coleus also need more light than most gardeners give them. As long as the soil has adequate moisture, the additional light will intensify their fabulous hues. A brick red sedum at the feet of the Phormium pulls the eye lower while echoing the color palette in a deeper hue.
